Year 12 Graduation Mass & Ceremony

The final day of celebrations for our Graduating Class of 2023 culminated in a beautiful and moving Graduation Mass concelebrated by Archpriest Michael Kalka from Mary Help of Christian Parish Altona and Fr John Healy from Holy Trinity Parish, Altona Meadows, Laverton, and Point Cook.

We opened with the procession of our Year 12 students and a light ceremony which included student, staff and parent representatives lighting a candle for our Graduating class of 2023 along with a touching tribute to Keira Healy. All our scriptures, prayers and music were inspired by our 2023 College Theme ‘Our Joy is in our Belonging.’ Our choir was remarkable, and we had lots of keen Year 12 students playing an active role with some even reading a prayer of the faithful in either their home language or one they have studied.

Fr John’s homily certainly brought alive the Gospel and offered this wonderful alternative acronym to the MSJ, Motivation, Spirituality and Joy. Three words that left a lasting impression. Complimenting the celebration, Fr Michael’s chant ‘Team MSJ’ and a lovely blessing over our graduates. Both priests are always very inspiring and thought-provoking.

Mass followed with a ceremony where formal speeches, awards and graduation certificates were presented. Parents and carers received gratitude letters and the students were presented with a beautiful St Mary MacKillop holding cross made of olive wood from Jerusalem. Fitting comfortably into their hands to offer hope and assurance that they are never alone.

The night was certainly filled with lots of emotion and pride for our amazing Year 12 cohort. They are a group filled with diverse talents and genuinely care for each other. Supper concluded the evening perfectly with some very happy students, parents, friends, staff, and other members of our community.

It really was a momentous evening, and our photos certainly reflect this. Congratulations to our Graduating Class of 2023 and all who worked in partnership with our Year 12 students. They have made a valuable contribution to the MSJ community, and we wish them every success and happiness with all their future endeavours.
