Influenza

As July approaches, the weather is starting to become a lot cooler. It is time to start thinking about staying well and preventing the spread of viruses, colds, and the dreaded flu. Below are some helpful reminders on how simple things can help us avoid getting sick and stopping the spread of germs.

Low Iron

A common complaint that presents to the sickbay at Mount St. Joseph Girls' College is dizziness and the feeling of being lightheaded. If the symptoms below are a common complaint you are hearing from your child, it might be a good idea to visit your GP and have their iron levels checked.

Low iron symptoms include:

  • feeling tired, listless, and weak
  • breathlessness
  • poor memory and concentration
  • poor performance at school or work
  • getting infections
  • finding it difficult to do aerobic exercise
  • fatigue (feeling very tired)
  • behaviour problems in children

Adolescent girls are at risk because of several factors, including growth spurts at puberty, iron loss through periods (menstruation) and risk of under-nutrition due to fad dieting that restricts eating. (https://www.betterhealth.vic.g...)
