MSJs Got Talent

MSJs Got Talent was held over three days this year, in Term 1 instead of the usual Term 4, and was an enormous display of talent from our student body. This year we continued with the new format where MSJs Got Talent is exactly that - a celebration of the talents that exist here and this event provides a platform for talents to be shared.

There was no need for competition when our students showcase such exceptional talent. We had performances from all year levels encompassing solo singing, duets, all types of extraordinary dance, and some senior acts showing serious singing and guitar skills. The attendance and encouragement from the students were overwhelming, just when we think it can't get any bigger or more popular it seems to.

It is heart-warming to see the friendships that exist here at MSJ and the way the students comes together to support each other.

2026 Star Cup

Capture the Flag

On Wednesday, February 18th, Bella and I had the pleasure of hosting the ‘Capture the Flag’ round for the Star Cup. Held during lunchtime, the event featured two high-energy matches involving six houses, and it was fantastic to see such a strong turnout from students across all year levels.

The first round saw a competitive face-off between Kincumber, McCormack, and Cameron. From the opening whistle, the girls displayed incredible teamwork as they worked to secure flags for their respective houses. Kincumber took a commanding early lead, holding the most flags for the first five minutes. However, the momentum shifted when McCormack and Cameron both executed clever strategies to reclaim flags from Kincumber’s base. By the end of the game, Cameron emerged victorious with six flags, followed by McCormack in second and Kincumber in third.

The excitement continued into the second round between Providence, Solomon, and Penola. While the game began with a cautious, tactical approach, the pace quickly intensified. Providence initially took the lead, with Penola following closely behind. In a spirited finish, Penola managed to overtake their rivals to secure first place, leaving Providence in second and Solomon in third.

Ultimately, the highlight of the day was seeing the school spirit on display. It was rewarding to watch girls from every year level collaborating and giving their all to earn points for their houses!

Cameron Walkathon

The Cameron Walkathon was such a fun way to start the Star Cup. Throughout lunchtime, there was a really good vibe and heaps of people got involved. It was super popular, and lots of students from different year levels came down to join in. Everyone was walking, talking, and cheering each other on, which made it feel really positive and exciting.

It was also awesome to see teachers getting involved. That made it even more fun and helped bring everyone together. Overall, the Walkathon was a great start to the Star Cup. It got everyone excited for what’s coming next and showed that Cameron House is ready to show up and get involved this year.

Providence: Newspaper Fashion

During Week 7, the Providence House Leaders hosted a Newspaper Fashion Competition, where students worked in groups of four to design and create a look made entirely out of newspaper, which was a great opportunity for students to showcase their creativity while working collaboratively with their peers.

The competition produced an impressive range of designs that highlighted the creativity within the MSJ community. Students created a variety of different pieces, including dresses, skirts, headpieces and even a Gucci bag. No two designs looked the same, and it was fantastic to see students thinking creatively and supporting one another throughout the activity.

At the end of the competition, one winning team from each house was selected based on creativity, design and teamwork, resulting in six house winners. From these teams, an overall winning team was then chosen.

Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the activity such a fun and successful event, particularly the winners from each house and the overall winning team from Kincumber! Their design included a stunning headpiece, and an opened back, pleated dress, paired with a matching bow on the top.

St Patrick's Makerspace

On Friday the 20th of March in the LRC, some students and teachers took part in the Makerspace session and made little pot plants for St Patricks day. Everyone had the chance to choose which succulent variety of plants they wanted and how to decorate the pots. The options for decorating were between a four-leaf clover and a sticker saying, ‘Christ beside me.’

We were also able make a mini magnet with a photo of St Joseph, as the 19th was the Feast Day for St Joseph. It was a fun and enjoyable experience and I would love to take part in activities like this weekly. I am happy to inform you that my plant is doing well at home! I would like to say thank you to Mrs Pignatelli for hosting the exciting activity and I can’t wait to spend more time creating more exciting things.

Isabella G - 7 Kincumber 2

I recently took part in a fun activity in Makerspace in the LRC where I potted succulents with my friends. We decorated tiny pots with four leaf clovers and messages. My succulent now sits on my windowsill, getting plenty of sunlight. It puts
a smile on my face when I see it.

It was a very interesting experience, made all the better by the thought that we were helping the environment (and we definitely had fun doing it). If everyone at MSJ had made a succulent, that would be more than 1,100 more plants in the world in one
day! It really shows that even one school can make a big difference. Altogether I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this activity, and I'm very grateful to Mrs Piganelli for providing the students with this great opportunity.

Harmony Day

On Friday the 20th of March, MSJ hosted its annual Harmony Day celebration. Students from all year levels gave incredible performances, who showcased their diverse talents and culture. MSJ is an inclusive faith community, we value our schools rich, vibrant diversity and value of culture, as it is one of the most important aspects of our school. Harmony Day is a special time to celebrate our backgrounds, explore unique perspectives and recognise that everyone has their own story. MSJ will always continue to appreciate and express our school’s cultural diversity.
