Student Wellbeing Report - March 2026

Faith

This Easter we Call for Peace in a Divided World. Easter in this context is a crucial reminder of the need for healing and a call for a "new horizon" where love, not violence, prevails.

Child Safety

At MSJ, we’re committed to building strong, meaningful partnerships with our families. As part of this commitment, we want to ensure the information we share—and the way we share it—truly supports you in navigating your child’s school journey.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be gathering feedback from our parents, guardians, and carers about the topics you’d like us to explore in future information sessions, as well as the formats that work best for you. Whether you prefer in‑person evenings, online webinars, short videos, or written guides, your input will help us tailor our communication to better meet the needs of our community.

Your voice plays an important role in shaping how we connect, inform, and support one another. We invite you to take a moment to complete our survey and share your thoughts. Together, we can create learning opportunities that are relevant, accessible, and genuinely helpful for all families.

We invite you to share your thoughts via the survey HERE.

Thank you for being an essential part of our MSJ community.

Travel to and from School

Travel to and from school can be problematic as there are so many moving pieces. We thank parents and guardians for your patience and understanding as the start of the year presented some challenges. We have been actively working with PTV and bus companies to try and enhance the experience for our students and families. We will be seeking travel monitors to assist with providing us feedback as issues arise.

Child Safety Committee

Our Child Safety Committee that is composed of students, parents and staff met recently to talk through all things Child Safety. We discussed AI and what tools will be used to ensure safety of all. We are also exploring student avenues for communication within the college in line with social media delays. We also explored the work in this space that identifies students leaving the MSJ network to use their own phones. We are currently putting in place some practices to address this. This has been communicated to students in the Daily Bulletin.

International Women’s Day

It was great to see so many of you attend International Women’s Day as the panel explored the importance of having opportunities as women in today's world. As individuals, giving support means calling out stereotypes, challenging discrimination, questioning bias, celebrating women's success, and more. We were privileged to hear from a panel of four inspirational women, three of whom were MSJ alumnae, whose insights and experiences greatly inspired our community.

Camps and Co-curricular Activities

A big thanks to the Year Level Leaders at Year 7 and 9 as they have organised and run camps. The students and staff always come back with great stories of achievement and resilience and a greater awareness of those around them. Thanks to all staff that make this possible as they leave behind their families to share time with our students. Thanks to all staff involved in running the vast array of co-curricular activities at MSJ.

Being an Upstander

It is always great to see students at MSJ providing support for their peers and reporting poor behaviour as it occurs. We know at times it is easier to follow others but always pleasing to see those that challenge things that don’t sit comfortably.

Headphones and Fidget Tools

There are processes around students using headphones and fidget tools. Parents and guardians are encouraged to seek advice from our diversity team.

Supportive Friends Leaders (SFL) 2026

This year the Year 11 Supportive Friends team has been working on building connections with the new members of our school community. Following a training day at the end of last year, we were able to meet up with this year’s new students on their Induction Day to answer any questions they had and make sure they had some familiar faces on their first day to help alleviate some of their nervousness.

This term we’ve hosted a check-in morning tea at recess to see how the new students were adjusting with a range of tasty treats. This was a casual catchup but another good way to connect and continue to build our friendships.

We have also ran Shrove Tuesday with the selling of pancakes and hot chocolate before school and at recess with lots of MSJ students and staff snacking on delicious pancakes with Nutella or maple syrup.

The SFL are running several fundraisers for Project Compassion including a BBQ, a raffle and will have a lolly stall at the Athletics Carnival. Stay tuned on SIMON for updates!

So far, this role has been a great opportunity to become more involved in the school. We are lucky enough to work with Miss Simcic and help with ideas we are excited about and make a difference to MSJ and the community.

Year 10 Peer Support Leaders (PSL)

The PSL have had a busy start to the year. We commenced our school year a day earlier by assisting the Year 7’s with their first day of school. We met the happy, excited and some nervous students and took them to their Learning Mentor groups. Throughout the day, we helped the Year 7’s read their timetables, work out how to open lock and unlock those tricky combination locks and took them on tours of the school to explain the layout. We answered lots of questions and reassured the Year 7’s that they will get used to secondary school and that we are always available to help.

We have started ‘Fun Fridays’ where we run LM time and play games, trivia, quizzes and get to know you activities to help ease the Year 7’s transition from primary to secondary school and help build positive relationships.

We are working on developing meaningful connections with the Year 7 students and each class is having a shared lunch. This allows us to get to know each other while sharing lunch, snacks and playing games. The shared lunches have been received with overwhelming enthusiasm.
