Mount St. Joseph Girls’ College – Year in Review 2025

A Message of Prayer, Solidarity, and Compassion for Bondi

On behalf of the MSJ community, we offer our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to the families and individuals who have suffered such tragic loss through the horrific events at Bondi on Sunday, 14 December. Our thoughts are with the wider community as it comes to terms with an incident that has caused profound shock and sorrow at what should be a joyful and festive time of year.

We stand in solidarity with our Jewish community across Australia, whose observance of the first day of Hanukkah - a time of light, hope, and celebration - was instead overshadowed by fear and devastation. May all those affected find comfort, strength, and peace as they heal.

Closing 2025 with Light, Faith, and Hope

As 2025 draws to a close, we look back on a year that has truly embodied our College theme: Be the Light that Ignites Hope. Our students, staff, and families have lived this message with courage, generosity, and joy.

We began the year by gathering as a faith community at our Opening Mass, grounding ourselves in gratitude and the hope-filled spirit of the Josephites. Throughout the year, opportunities to learn, lead, and shine continued to unfold. Our Year 7 and Year 9 camps were filled with fun, adventure, and the forging of new friendships. On the sports field, our students represented MSJ with courage and teamwork, showing determination and pride at interschool events.

Creativity flourished in extraordinary ways. From the energy of MMADD Day to the dazzling success of our College Production, Little Shop of Horrors, and the inspiring performances of Sound and Vision, our students showed what is possible when imagination and collaboration come together. Their gifts have enriched our community and reminded us of the joy found in artistic expression.

Our Josephite values remained central as we celebrated JJAMM Week and Mary MacKillop Feast Day, engaging in meaningful acts of service and solidarity. Whether through fundraising, the Winter Sleepout, or daily kindness, our students lived out the spirit of Mary MacKillop: Never see a need without doing something about it.

A highlight of the year was welcoming students from Seirei Holy Spirit High School as part of our long-standing Peace Program. Their visit strengthened the bonds of friendship and cultural understanding that have enriched both our communities for decades. It was with great excitement that twenty-eight students and four staff were able to visit Seirei in December as part of this program.

As we congratulate and farewell our Year 12 students, we do so with deep pride in all they have contributed to MSJ. This year has been filled with moments of light - moments shaped by the courage, creativity, and hope shared by every member of our community. To our students, staff, and families: Thank you for your dedication, resilience, and partnership throughout 2025. Your support makes MSJ a place where young people can grow, discover, and shine.

As we enter this season of peace and joy, may the light of Christ fill your homes and hearts. May this Christmas bring rest, renewal, and gratitude for the blessings of the year, and may the New Year ahead be one of hope, possibility, and grace for all.

Wishing every member of our MSJ community a safe, joyful, and blessed Christmas.
