MMADD Day 2026

MMADD Day is always a blast! It is a day to celebrate art in all forms, Music, Media, Art, Drama and Dance. This year’s focus was Film and Cinema.

Our day began with an assembly where some of our performing arts students showcased their talents to the school community, followed by our guest speaker for the day, Mia Boonen, a Melbourne-based theatre maker, advocate and mental health worker, and the CEO of Dramawerkz Theatre Inc. She is also an ex-MSJ student. Mia was an inspirational and engaging speaker who showed that there is a path for young women in performing arts and life is full of twists and turns.

The workshops for the day completely emersed the students from year 8-11 in the world of film, they could act, direct, make costumes, develop characters, go on a journey through music, create a soundtrack, analyse some of films greatest stunts or for those budding accountants, how much does it really cost to create a blockbuster in the Big Budget Challenge.

But the highlight of the day for the students is always the house cup dance competition. The year 7s and 12s from each house join together to represent their house. Each house was given a film genre to take their music, costumes and concepts from, and they didn’t disappoint. It was a wonderful spectacle of music, dance and colourful characters. It is obvious the work that goes into choreographing and learning the dances over days and weeks. Rehearsals are intense but filled with laughter, fun and collaboration. It is a special day for all involved, students and teachers alike, all embracing the chance to wear costumes. Congratulations to our winners.
