Our VCE Italian students recently had the opportunity to enrich their language studies with an excursion to the Museo Italiano, Co.As.It. in Carlton, where they explored the rich history of Italian migration to Australia. The visit was guided by MSJ Alumnae Carmelina (Class of 2013), who shared her own inspiring journey of learning Italian and the personal stories behind many of the artefacts from the post-WWII migration era.
To further deepen their cultural understanding, students visited Brunetti Classico Carlton for a behind-the-scenes tour and presentation, gaining insight into the lasting impact of Italian immigrants on Australia’s hospitality industry.
The day offered an engaging and meaningful connection between language, culture, and history.
Our Alpine Camp was honestly such a fun and wild experience! Over three days, we explored the beautiful outdoors and had every type of weather you can think of. Sunshine, rain, and even snow, all in one day.
On the first day, we visited Steavenson Falls. The waterfall was massive and super pretty, and we all loved taking photos and hanging out there. That night, we cooked dinner on trangias. Everyone worked together in their groups, and it was cool being able to make our own meals outside, even though the ducks tried to help themselves to our dinners!
The second day was spent up at Lake Mountain, which was the best! It actually snowed while we were up there, so we got to play in it, have snowball fights, and even go cross country skiing. Some of us hadn’t seen snow before, so it was a really exciting moment. We also had a talk about the local flora and fauna, and it was interesting to learn how plants and animals survive in such cold conditions.
On the final day, we drove up to Keppel’s Lookout. The view over Marysville was stunning, and it was a peaceful way to end the trip.
To kick off Term 3, students from Year 8E, 8F, and 8G spent the day at Wyndham Tech at the VU Werribee campus. They took part in a variety of hands-on STEM activities designed to inspire and challenge.
Throughout the day, students explored exciting fields such as robotics, virtual reality, game development, and AI-powered drones, gaining valuable insights into the technologies shaping our future.
It was a dynamic and inspiring experience that sparked curiosity and creativity in the world of STEM.
