Basketball

The 2025 school basketball was such an amazing and memorable experience. We fought hard and worked as a team to get the win we definitely deserved! Throughout the day, we definitely bonded as a team and formed many new friendships. Congratulations to Aleksija Stajik who won the Division 2 MVP, and to those from the other Junior team, the Intermediate team, and the senior teams who won awards and their championships. Overall, the day was fun, exciting, competitive and most importantly memorable.

Junior Basketball Tournament

On Tuesday the 13th of May, students from MSJ competed in an interschool basketball tournament. Both our C and D teams represented the school with pride, showing great effort, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

The C team played really well and made it all the way to the grand final. They had some strong wins earlier in the day and showed great teamwork and determination. In the grand final, they faced Academy, a tough and well organized team. It was a close and intense game, but unfortunately, the C team lost. Even though they didn’t win, they should be proud of how far they got and how well they played.

The D team also had a fantastic day, going undefeated and making it to the grand final. They played with confidence and energy, working together really well as a team. In the final match, they stayed focused and strong, winning the game and taking out the grand final. It was an exciting moment for the whole team and a well-deserved win. A special mention goes to Eliza Mayne, who was awarded MVP in the grand final for her outstanding performance.

Both teams did an amazing job representing MSJ, and it was a fun and competitive day. Well done to everyone who played!

Football

The MSJ footy competition on Wednesday 11th June was a really fun day. We started off by getting on the bus with some music playing to get pumped up and ready to go, when we arrived everyone was talking, laughing, having a kick and buidling that team feel. During the games, everyone gave it their best like the coaches told us to. Thanks to our coaches Mr Dundon for the Inters, Ms Gossow for the Seniors and Mr McCartney for the juniors. The junior girls made it all the way to the grand final. All the MSJ teams supported each other and cheered us on. Even though we didn’t win, we were proud of how far we came. It was a well-run day and you could tell no one wanted it to end—there’ll definitely be a lot of us back at trials next year.

Cross Country

The school cross country at Yarra Bend Park was such a fun day for our team. It started off pretty chilly, but the sun came out and warmed things up as we tackled the 3km course and had a few challenging hills along the way. Our Jnr team had seven runners, each giving it their all. Kalani had an awesome first race, coming in 5th and earning a medal, and Mila put in an incredible effort, finishing 25th out of 118 runners. I, Ella, was thrilled to receive a medal for 4th place. For the inters Annabel Groombridge finished in the top 5 and for the seniors Alexa Zimmerling finished in the top 10. It was a fantastic effort by everyone, showcasing our team's determination and spirit.

Badminton

Last Tuesday, we went to MSAC to compete against several other schools in badminton. It was a fantastic opportunity to test our skills, meet new people, and experience a competitive environment. Everyone gave their best effort throughout the day. Although we didn’t win many matches overall, we were proud to attain a few victories for MSJ. More importantly, we had a great time bonding as a team, cheering each other on, and representing our school. It was definitely a memorable day full of fun and teamwork!

CGSAV Athletics Carnival

Recently, MSJ participated in the CGSAV Athletics Carnival. It was a really fun day where we got to compete in events against other catholic girls schools and cheer on our friends as well. Everyone was really supportive, always cheering each other on, and many people tried events they hadn’t done before. Even though MSJ didn’t win,we finished 3rd overall which is an amazing achievement. I think everyone gave it their best effort and had a great time. We made lots of memories, and it was a great chance to spend time with friends and meet students from other schools too. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
